Seven Months Old – Part 3 (Videos)

After the Christmas rush we had a nasty cold sweep through the entire house. As a result, we didn’t take many pictures for this week. However, we did take two videos this week to chronicle her progress:

In the first video, we see Makayla using the coffee table up go from sitting to standing and back and forth.

In the second video, we see Makayla at feeding time. Sometimes, like her, she likes to do everything but eat.

Seven Months Old – Parts 1 and 2

Makayla hit the big seven months just after Christmas! This pictures from this post include our Christmas with Makayla, our Christmas with Kari’s parents, and a Christmas with Joshua’s brother’s family via UPS. Overall Makayla really enjoyed Christmas and she seems to enjoy playing with everything she received. And while she didn’t really get Santa Clause, she could tell that something different and special was going on…especially when a giant exersaucer appeared in the living room over night.

In addition to crawling all around the house, she’s figured out how to pull up from sitting to standing by using the coffee table. Now anything on our coffee table is fair game and usually ends up on the floor. She’s been trying to pull the same maneuver with our TV stand and end tables but they are a bit too high for her right now. She’s also been taking more spills and tumbles but we’ve noticed that as time goes on she’s falling more “gracefully”.

In terms of new foods, we’ve introduced peas and avocado.

Six Months Old – Part 4

Well, Makayla finally figured out her mobility. She’s moving all over our living room (especially under the Christmas tree) and all over her room. She also crawled from her room into the kitchen. In addition to crawling, all she wants to do lately is stand up. She can standup by herself if she as something to push up on (like a box or stack of books) but she’s still working on pulling up. She can get on her knees by using the coffee table but that’s as far as she can make it for now. This also means she’s been taking more spills and tumbles. Everyday she has a new red mark or bruise. Thankfully she inherited our hard heads.

For food this week, we introduced potatoes and asparagus. She couldn’t quite get the hang of eating asparagus but she loved the potatoes. In fact, she might like potatoes more than bananas!

We also had our first Christmas with the Starling side of the family last weekend. We learned that Makayla has a penchant for tasting wrapping paper and tissue paper. She had a great time hanging out with Mema and Poppy and opening/eating presents!

Six Months Old – Parts 2 and 3

With Christmas quickly approaching, things have been very busy at the Starling household. Makayla continues to work on her crawling techniques. Thankfully she still hasn’t figured out that she’s mobile yet. For the most part she just crawls around few feet in any direction, just far enough to get a toy (or anything that she can gum on). Speaking of that, she hasn’t cut any teeth yet but I think we’re getting close. In terms of food, we’ve introduced green beans, carrots, and bananas. So far she seems to like them all…especially the bananas.

Video – Makayla Crawling and Sitting Up

Well this week Makayla figured out how to crawl! Right now she’s just crawling a few feet to get a toy or something. She has a tendency to crawl a few steps and then make a long reach to get the object. Thankfully she hasn’t figured out just how mobile she is yet! In the video, we had to “bribe” her to move with one of her combs. At the end of the video, she sits up like a champ (something she’s got down fairly well).

Six Months Old

This week Makayla turned six months old! She had her check-up at the doctor and here are her stats:

Length: 26 in (grown 2 inches since 4 months)

Weight: 15 lbs 12 oz (gained 1 lbs 12 oz)

Head: 43.5 cm / 17 in  (grown 1.5 cm)

She’s still in the 50th percentile for length and weight and in the 75th percentile for head size. She’s still just as healthy as can be. She also handled three vaccine shots and a flu shot like a champ. She also got to experience her first Swine Time decked out in a camo dress we got from the Bass Pro shop!

In terms of development, she figured out how to get into the sitting position from being on her stomach. We also started feeding her some small pieces of cooked broccoli. She is able to grab the broccoli, get it to her mouth, and nibble/chew on it.

Five Months Old – Part 5

This week Makayla celebrated her first Thanksgiving! It just so happened to coincide with time we were supposed to start solid foods, so her first Thanksgiving meal was rice cereal. Needless to say, she loves eating solid foods! She practically took the spoon and shoved it in her mouth. Most of the pictures from this week are from this special event. Next week we’ll cover the big six months milestone!

Five Months Old – Parts 3 and 4

Makayla is almost six months old! She has been making progress in many areas these past two weeks. She is now able to get into the crawling position and rock back in forth. While she mostly scoots herself backwards, she occasionally makes forward progress (only to wipe out). She is also introducing single syllable sounds into her everyday language. Her current favorite is “Ba-ba” but she occasionally throws out another syllable sound or two. Shouldn’t be long until she’s moving and talking!

Videos – More of Makayla Laughing and Growling

Well, we didn’t get a chance to take many pictures this week. So instead of posting just a few pictures, I’m going to put up two videos from this week and we’ll have more pictures next week. In the first video Makayla is playing in her Exersaucer and just growling away:

In the second video, we were getting Makayla ready for bed and she was in a really good mood (normally she is tired and fussy by that time of the night):
